POSTECH Launches Quantum Angular Momentum Dynamics Research Center
February 18, 2025 -- Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) held an opening ceremony for the 'Quantum Angular Momentum Dynamics Research Center' on the 18th. The ceremony was attended by about 100 officials, including An Tae-kyu, head of the Natural Science Division at the National Research Foundation of Korea, and Kim Seong-keun, president of POSTECH. This center will conduct in-depth research to elucidate the mechanisms of quantum angular momentum in solid materials and will carry out research on innovative material implementation and quantum angular momentum observation technology development. This research center is led by POSTECH, with participation from Sungkyunkwan University, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Sogang University, Yonsei University, University of Ulsan, University of Incheon, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
NANO and Belgium's IMEC have signed a memorandum of understanding for an internship program. The agreement was made to cultivate domestic graduate students as advanced personnel in semiconductors. Beginning March 1, 12 domestic graduate students will be dispatched for internships at IMEC for one year. IMEC, established in 1984, is an independent nonprofit research institution recognized as a leader in the fields of nanoelectronics and digital technology. NANO plans to select an additional 15 students for dispatch to IMEC in the second half of the year.
The Korea Institute of Materials Science reported that its research institute company TwinWiz has successfully secured investment from CNT Tech. TwinWiz has developed material technology that provides antimicrobial, antiviral, and antifungal functions to products used in various industries and daily life without altering their color, appearance, or properties. Last October, the company expanded and relocated its establishment, marking the start of full-scale operations.
The Ministry of Science and ICT held a meeting on the 18th with major academic organizations in the comprehensive field registered with the Korea Federation of Science and Technology Societies. The meeting was presided over by Minister Yoo Sang-im. Minister Yoo noted that he listened to the opinions of academic organizations to ensure the successful establishment of the leading research and development initiatives the government is actively promoting from this year.
