Quantum Industry Canada Announces Addition of Three Alberta-Based Organizations to the National Consortium

Industry / Press Release May 15, 2024

May 14, 2024 — Quantum Industry Canada (QIC), the national consortium dedicated to advancing Canada’s quantum technology sector, is pleased to announce the expansion of its network once again with the addition of three organizations from Alberta’s growing quantum ecosystem.

In recent years, Alberta has made strategic investments in talent development, infrastructure, and business development to foster growth in the quantum technology sector. These efforts aim to support quantum innovators in developing products and solutions to address global challenges.

The Alberta CREATE Centre, Quantum Silicon Inc., and Qubo Consulting Corp. join QIC as an affiliate and members, respectively. These additions highlight Alberta and Canada’s extensive capabilities across the quantum value chain, from talent development to specialized fabrication, characterization, and building of quantum solutions.

More about QIC’s newest additions:

  • Alberta CREATE Centre is based in Edmonton and provides open-access resource facilities ranging from nano technology, engineering makerspace, and cloud infrastructure via the nanoFAB, the Elko Garage, and ISAIC.
  • Quantum Silicon Inc. (QSi) is an Edmonton-headquartered company working to develop devices that harness proprietary single-atom silicon quantum dots to create high-speed quantum-enabled accelerators that are orders of magnitude faster and more energy efficient than their transistor-based equivalents.
  • Qubo Consulting Corp. is a Calgary-headquartered quantum training and consulting company helping businesses, non-profits, and government organizations make informed decisions about emerging disruptive technology by training business leaders and the future quantum workforce on quantum tech and its implications for various industries.

“It’s been fantastic to see the recent investments in the quantum tech ecosystem in Alberta,” said Lisa Lambert, the Chief Executive Officer of QIC. “Alberta is an important quantum hub for Canada, and the addition of CREATE, Quantum Silicon, and Qubo Consulting to QIC’s national community is a meaningful indication of the desire for players from across the value chain to work together to grow this sector and unleash the fulness of Canada’s quantum potential. This collaboration is critical to driving future economic prosperity for Alberta and Canada.”

QIC now represents over 50 quantum technology and allied organizations among its members and affiliates, underscoring the consortium’s pivotal role in uniting and propelling Canada’s quantum industry forward. Quantum sector companies and organizations supporting Canada’s quantum ecosystem are invited to explore the benefits of QIC membership and affiliate opportunities and apply to join the national consortium here.
