NSERC and the French National Research Agency Partner to Support Quantum Computing Hardware and Software Projects
September 26, 2024 -- Canada and France have a strong history of cooperation in science, technology and innovation. To this end, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) is pleased to announce its support of eight collaborative research projects focused on quantum computing hardware and software. NSERC’s investment in these projects is close to CAN $2.2 million over three years.
This initiative is the first joint research funding opportunity launched under the formal NSERC and ANR partnership announced last year. The collaborative opportunity supports key elements of Canada’s National Quantum Strategy, specifically the mission to make Canada a world leader in the continued development, deployment, and use of quantum computing hardware and software.
The eight funded projects explore various aspects of quantum computing, including new types of quantum systems, advanced research in high-magnetic-field environments, studying ultra-cold atoms in light crystals, and improving technologies like GPS and telescopes. They also involve studying special quantum materials, designing and testing photonic devices, developing new quantum information processing methods, and enhancing photon imaging techniques.
