Quantum Delta NL Awarded €273 Million by the National Growth Fund for the Third Phase
Delft, Netherlands, 12 July 2024 -- Quantum Delta NL (QDNL), the Netherlands' national ecosystem for excellence in quantum innovation, today announces that it has secured a €273 million investment from The National Growth Fund (NGF) as part of the third phase of the QDNL programme. This brings the total amount of funding awarded to QDNL to €615 million. The Dutch government's decision to support this initiative highlights their commitment to a shared vision: driving quantum innovation forward and creating sustainable economic growth.
Over the past three years, QDNL has cultivated a strong ecosystem that includes research, talent, and startup development. This has empowered all stakeholders to sustain a prominent position both within Europe and globally, transforming quantum technology into tangible economic and societal benefits. These efforts strongly contribute to fostering innovation and driving long-term economic impact in the Netherlands – one of the main goals of the NGF.
For the third phase to be awarded, the condition was to conduct an independent midterm review (MTR) and submit an updated plan. The MTR was very successful, recognizing QDNL as a globally iconic project. This success has inspired other nations to invest in Quantum Technology in the same image and spirit.
As a mission driven programme, the goal of QDNL is to accelerate scientific developments, stimulating commercialisation of quantum technology and thereby growing the quantum economy, to create long-term economic and societal impact for the Netherlands. The €273 million investment from the NGF will be used to continue this mission, with a strong emphasis on engaging end-users and enhancing manufacturing and industry participation. This will ensure that the efforts are strategically aligned with fast growing market needs and opportunities.
With the plan for the third phase, there is confidence that QDNL is well-prepared to further build and expand the quantum ecosystem in the Netherlands and internationally. This plan not only addresses immediate needs and leverages past successes but also sets a clear path towards a sustainable and innovative future, empowering the next generation of quantum technologies and their applications worldwide.
