Xanadu Partners With Two Prominent Japanese Companies to Advance Quantum Computing Technologies

Business / Press Release June 29, 2024

June 27, 2024 -- Xanadu, the world leader in photonic quantum computing, partners with Nanofiber Quantum Technologies (NanoQT) and QunaSys to expand quantum research and support Japan's quantum ecosystem. Collaborating with two of Japan's prominent quantum startups, Xanadu will push the boundaries of quantum theory research and open-source quantum software development.

Xanadu is a Canadian quantum technology company on a mission to build quantum computers that are useful and available to people everywhere. To advance this mission, Xanadu is partnering with academic institutions and organizations to further existing research and help train the future quantum workforce. Xanadu’s open-source framework, PennyLane, will be foundational to both partnerships.

NanoQT is Japan's first startup to develop scalable quantum networks leveraging a hybrid system which combines neutral atoms and photons using a unique method called nanofiber-based Cavity QED (Quantum Electrodynamics). Xanadu and NanoQT will conduct collaborative theory research that will be essential to building error-corrected fault-tolerant quantum computers. QunaSys focuses on research and development of error correction architectures, specifically innovative algorithms for quantum chemistry and computer-aided engineering, by collaborating with partner organizations to explore real-world quantum use cases. The partnership between QunaSys and Xanadu will see PennyLane implemented to support the cutting-edge research done by QunaSys and its world-leading industry clients.

In addition to expanding quantum research, the partnerships will support Japanese universities by providing educational and training resources, bolstering existing programs and creating new opportunities.

"Xanadu, NanoQT and QunaSys are dedicated to making quantum accessible. We look forward to working with these organizations to extend our existing collaborations with Japanese universities and further contribute to the thriving quantum ecosystem in Japan," said Christian Weedbrook, Xanadu Founder and CEO.
