Over 11 Million in Funding Available for Research on Quantum and Semiconductor Technologies
January 29, 2026 -- Quantum and semiconductor technologies are essential key technologies within the central government's National Technology Strategy. To stimulate fundamental and applied research into these technologies, NWO and Holland High Tech have drawn up this Call for proposals. Specifically, the call calls for research into heterogeneous development solutions around chiplets, advanced packaging and associated metrology and/or knowledge development in the field of new, robust production processes, manufacturability and scalability of quantum technologies.
This call is a collaboration between NWO and Holland High Tech, the TKI High Tech Systems and Materials (TKI-HTSM). TKI-HTSM stimulates public-private collaborations between teams of experts from industry, knowledge institutes and governments in the field of technological innovation in key technologies.
Budget and co-funding
NWO and Holland High Tech together make 11.85 million euro available for research proposals within this call for proposals. Half of this is reserved for proposals around the theme of semiconductors and the other half for quantum-related proposals.
It is mandatory to have two or more co-funders participate in the project. The co-funders must jointly contribute at least 20% of the total budget for the proposal. This can be in cash or in-kind.
Matchmaking
On 2 March 2026, NWO and Holland High Tech are organising a matchmaking meeting for this call. This meeting provides an opportunity for participants to exchange ideas, network and identify any missing expertise. In doing so, the meeting offers opportunities for further cooperation between the parties present. In addition, more information on the application process and Impact approaches will be provided during the matchmaking.
NWO-KIC: innovation programmes in the knowledge and innovation covenant
NWO develops innovation programmes that focus on societal challenges in the Netherlands. These programmes aim to have an impact on the economy, people and society. The focus is on cooperation between knowledge institutions, private parties and the government. The results thus contribute to the realisation of economic opportunities. It is therefore essential that companies invest in every research project.
