ORCA Computing Showcases Advancement of Quantum Use-Cases

Industry / Press Release April 10, 2025

April 09, 2025 -- ORCA recently demonstrated how it is accelerating real-world use cases at the Digital Catapult’s Quantum Technology Access Programme (QTAP) Showcase. The event, which gathered industry leaders and startups such as Vodafone, BAE Systems, Autonomia, Origami Labs, Viasat, ZF Group, SIMULEX Limited and MBDA, highlighted the practical impact of quantum and AI technologies. Attendees explored how ORCA’s platform empowers companies to rapidly develop and experiment with quantum use cases within months.

ORCA’s platform enabled participants to swiftly create use cases with minimal onboarding and rapid results. Companies were able to leverage the ORCA SDK programming environment to get up to speed quickly and start building. This achievement has left participants eager to expand on their work, with many already exploring new opportunities for applying quantum computing to their businesses.

“ORCA Computing is setting a new standard for quantum computing productivity,” said Richard Murray, Co-founder and CEO of ORCA Computing. “Through QTAP, we’ve proven that businesses can transition from exploration to real-world use cases in just a few months, a speed never seen before in the industry. By making quantum computing more accessible and seamlessly integrating with existing workflows, we’re accelerating adoption and are opening up new commercial opportunities.”

By simplifying the integration of quantum computing, ORCA is helping industries enhance machine learning and optimization capabilities without the need for deep quantum expertise. Industry leaders weigh in on the experience:

Dr Ryan Parker, Vodafone Group Quantum Team Lead, stated: “The QTAP programme has been invaluable to the Vodafone R&D Quantum Team. We successfully deployed a network optimisation algorithm on ORCA’s PT-2 Series quantum computer, proving that the technology works for vital use-cases within the telco sector, and will be further pursuing this and exploring other use-cases with ORCA.”

“QTAP has been a fantastic experience which has helped us to kick start our quantum computing journey,” said Pierre Moinier, Technologist for AI & Digital at BAE Systems. “BAE found the ORCA solution to be a very good platform for investigating a certain class of use cases and developing early quantum algorithms.”

Dr. Diana Hernández-Báez, CEO and Co-founder of SIMULEX Limited said: “QTAP has been an invaluable training programme guided by experts from Digital Catapult, providing crucial insights into quantum algorithms. This enabled us to implement a use case on a real photonic quantum computer from ORCA computing. We are amazed with the outcomes and extremely grateful to all the partners involved.”

“We strive to stay at the cutting edge of technology to understand how best to deliver real-world value to our customers, “said Thom Kirwan-Evans, Co-Founder of Origami Labs. “Working with ORCA during the QTAP program has shown us that quantum computing is both nearer and more applicable to our problems, than we realised. As a result, we are now exploring quantum solutions to existing challenges.”

John Doherty, Data Scientist at Origami Labs added: “Using ORCA’s SDK during the QTAP program was a fantastic experience. It was intuitive, powerful and a great way to explore photonic quantum computing, firsthand.”
