Qilimanjaro Quantum Tech and Do IT Now Selected to Advance European Quantum Computing as Part of EuroHPC JU Initiative

Industry / Press Release January 31, 2025

Barcelona, 28th January 2025 — Qilimanjaro Quantum Tech, in partnership with Do IT Now, is proud to announce the signature of the procurement contract of EuroQCS-Spain quantum computer for EuroHPC Joint Undertaking. Under this agreement, MareNostrum-Ona, an adiabatic quantum computer, will be hosted at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), marking a significant milestone in the integration of quantum and supercomputing technologies across Europe.

EuroQCS-Spain is part of a european supercomputing infrastructure that will be accelerated by various quantum technologies and made accessible to the European research community.

Together, Qilimanjaro as a full-stack quantum provider and Do IT Now as HPC-QC integrator will deliver annually three generations of 10-qubit Adiabatic Quantum Processing Units (AQPUs), starting in the second half of 2025, with subsequent AQPUs delivered in 2026 and 2027.

The 8.5M€ contract includes equipment installation, training, maintenance, support and warranty, ensuring seamless integration into the EuroHPC supercomputer MareNostrum 5 at BSC. This new quantum system will complement the digital quantum computer already hosted at BSC, which was procured under the Quantum Spain initiative.

The Innovation of Analog Quantum Computing

MareNostrum-Ona, the quantum computer developed by Qilimanjaro uses superconducting qubit technology following the adiabatic/analog computation model. This innovative design makes it especially effective for solving complex optimization problems, running quantum simulations, and performing annealing algorithms, tasks that are often difficult for traditional computers.

“Additionally, the system is designed to be easily accessible, allowing researchers  to code and run their own algorithms using their preferred editor, making it a practical and user-friendly tool for exploring quantum computing’s potential. “

Integration with Europe’s Supercomputing Ecosystem

The quantum system will be seamlessly integrated into the infrastructure at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), creating a powerful combination of (analog and digital) quantum and classical computing capabilities. This hybrid setup will make it easier to tackle complex scientific and industrial challenges. The contract also includes thorough training and ongoing support to ensure the BSC team can effectively operate and maintain the quantum computer over time.

By working closely with European suppliers, Qilimanjaro and Do IT Now provide a strong and innovative solution that promotes collaboration and advances for the HPC and quantum computing communities.

This initiative strengthens Europe’s leadership in quantum technology and highlights the joint tenderers’ commitment to delivering cutting-edge computing solutions.
