RIKEN Scientists Have Discovered a New Method for Rapidly and Accurately Measuring Electron Spin Qubits

Researchers from RIKEN have demonstrated a new method to measure silicon-based spin qubits with an accuracy of more than 99% and a measurement time of just a few microseconds. Instead of measuring the spin of a single electron by detecting magnetic fields, the team converted the spin into an electrical charge before making the measurement. They built a silicon device capable of trapping two electrons and then inferred the quantum state by monitoring the current flowing through the device. Since the measurement signal results from the difference in the charge states, this method is easier to measure than magnetic fields.
