Quantum sensors pave the way for innovation in sensing technology. They are set to revolutionise a variety of sectors, spanning from health care to space and defence. VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland is at the forefront of quantum sensor development, aiming to commercialise the technology for the benefit of many. The research institute strongly believes that broader adoption of quantum technologies has a strong and positive societal and environmental impact.

Today, at the EuroHPC User Day 2024 in Amsterdam, the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking announced the selection of SURF to host and operate a new European quantum computer, in coordination with QuantumDelta NL. The system will be located at the Amsterdam Science Park and integrated into the Dutch national supercomputer, Snellius.

The EuroHPC Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) has signed a purchase agreement with IQM Quantum Computers (IQM), a global leader in designing, building, and selling superconducting quantum computers. Under the agreement, IQM will deliver two advanced Radiance quantum systems of 54 qubits and 150 qubits in the second half of 2025 and by the end of 2026, respectively.

Quandela in consortium with attocube systems AG announce that they have been selected by EuroHPC Joint Undertaking and EuroQCS-France to deliver a universal photonic quantum computer, with at least 12 qubits, the most powerful in Europe. The system, owned by EuroHPC and co-acquired by GENCI, will be hosted and operated by CEA at TGCC. It will be coupled to the Joliot-Curie supercomputer, and will be made available to scientific communities in 2025 as part of open research.

The procurement contract for the EuroQCS-France quantum computer, Lucy, has been signed by the European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) and the selected French-German vendor partnership, including Quandela and attocube. Lucy will be a digital, MOSAIQ-12 photonic quantum computer, offering 12 physical qubits.

An new project, launched by the European Commission and supported by the Quantum Flagship, is set to transform the way in which Earth monitoring is conducted by providing more accurate data on changes in ice melt, groundwater depletion, and ocean circulation. CARIOQA-PMP is a new €17 million project that seeks to improve traditional gravity-sensing methods by incorporating the capabilities of quantum sensors.

IQM Quantum Computers (IQM), a global leader in designing, building, and selling superconducting quantum computers, today announced the company has won a contract to deliver the Czech Republic’s first quantum computer to be installed at the IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Centre in Ostrava.

EU funding for this call of €65 million is expected to be matched by the participating states of the Chips JU. This is part of the €200 million EU investment in quantum chips envisaged under the Chips JU over the next three years.
