PINQ² and Memorial University Expand Access to Quantum Computing for Research and Education

Industry October 21, 2026

October 20, 2026 -- PINQ² (Digital and Quantum Innovation Platform) is proud to highlight its partnership with Memorial University of Newfoundland, which has been leveraging Canada’s most advanced quantum computing infrastructure for several months.

Through Memorial’s Centre for Analytics, Informatics and Research (CAIR), more than 50 professors, researchers and graduate students now have access to the IBM Quantum System One (QS1), located in Bromont, Quebec.

Under PINQ²’s Global University Access program, the five-year agreement provides Memorial’s academic community with unlimited access to the platform for research, teaching and educational projects, from master’s to PhD level.

The collaboration reinforces PINQ²’s mission to accelerate Canada’s quantum ecosystem by providing universities with the infrastructure needed to train highly qualified talent and advance applied quantum research.

The university has shown great enthusiasm, actively participating in the first cohort of the Road to Practitioner training program, as well as in other projects and in the broader ecosystem.

«At PINQ², we believe Canada’s leadership in quantum will be built through strong collaboration between academia, industry and governments. By providing Memorial University with long-term access to Canada’s most advanced quantum infrastructure, we are helping researchers and students move beyond theory and develop the skills and applications that will shape the future of quantum computing.» – Marie-Claude Messier, General Manager, PINQ2

“CAIR’s investment in institution-wide access to IBM’s Quantum One via PINQ² infrastructure is transformational for Memorial University. It places world-class quantum tools directly into the hands of our students and researchers, reshaping what’s possible. This will accelerate innovation and strengthen Memorial University’s role in Canada’s quantum ecosystem.” — Jacqueline French, Associate Director, CAIR, Memorial University

“Partnerships like this position Newfoundland and Labrador at the forefront of innovation. By connecting our researchers and students to advanced technologies like quantum computing, we are building the skilled talent our province needs, supporting economic growth and creating new opportunities for industries throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.” — The Honourable Lin Paddock, Minister of Jobs, Growth and Rural Development
