Fomer Telekom Board of Management Member, Claudia Nemat, Named Chairwoman of IQM Quantum Council
Espoo, Finland, October 23 2025 -- IQM Quantum Computers, a global leader in superconducting quantum computers, today announced the appointment of Claudia Nemat, the former Deutsche Telekom Board of Management member for technology and innovation, as its new chairwoman, for IQM Quantum Council, effective 1st November 2025.
Nemat, with over two decades of technology and management experience, will replace Dr Axel Thierauf, the current chairman and former IQM Quantum Council chair. The council serves as a strategic advisory body to IQM, and it helps position the company as a sovereign leader in quantum computing by fostering a secure, innovative, and sustainable quantum future for all.
IQM´s Quantum Council, which was established over five years ago, has been advancing the quantum computing industry through innovation, education, and strategic policy influence. It fosters collaboration across industry, academia, and government to grow the quantum computing market, strengthen commercial adoption, and shape industry standards and best practices for responsible quantum development.
In addition, it supports commercialization efforts and strategic partnerships, fostering job creation through quantum hardware and software ventures, advocate for quantum adoption at the highest levels of policymaking across Europe and drive workforce development through reskilling, industrial training, and education programs.

Nemat is a physicist and a thought leader on digital transformation and artificial intelligence, focusing on human-centered technologies, and she has held senior leadership and board positions in several European countries and in North and South America. Prior to Deutsche Telekom, she spent 17 years at McKinsey & Company where she was elected Partner in 2000, and Senior Partner in 2006.
She is a member of the University Council of the University of Cologne, a member of the German Council on Foreign Relations and a member of the Board of Directors of ABB. She was also a member of the Lanxess Supervisory Board for several years and the Airbus Board of Directors. In 2021, Nemat was awarded the Heinrich Hertz Visiting Professorship of KIT (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology).
