PsiQuantum Selects Jacobs To Deliver One of the World’s First Utility-Scale Quantum Computers in Australia
DALLAS, March 19, 2025 -- Jacobs was selected by PsiQuantum to deliver master planning, schematic design, and owner's engineer services for what is poised to be one of the world's first utility-scale, fault tolerant quantum computers in Brisbane, Australia.
Located adjacent to Brisbane Airport, the 540,000 square foot facility will comprise of a main office building, a large-scale cryoplant, and the Quantum Computing Center where the utility-scale quantum computer will be housed. PsiQuantum's utility-scale quantum computer aims to solve commercially valuable problems that no conventional or AI computer could ever solve and will help deliver Australia's National Quantum Strategy and its vision for a thriving quantum industry.
Construction is expected to commence later in 2025 and be completed by the end of 2027.
"Over the past year, Jacobs has collaborated closely with PsiQuantum designing and validating the plans for this facility," said Jacobs President of Global Operations Patrick Hill. "As we transition into the owner's engineer phase, we will draw on more than 30-years of experience delivering high-tech, mission-critical projects across various markets to ensure the facility is secure, scalable and easy to replicate."
"Jacobs brings decades of expertise to our Brisbane project and has been a trusted partner from the very beginning of this project, collaborating closely on the initial design and planning stages," said PsiQuantum COO Fariba Danesh. "Now, as the Owner's Engineer, they are playing a pivotal role in turning our vision into reality—building the world's first utility-scale quantum computer. This ambitious endeavor demands world-class talent, and we're proud to have Jacobs alongside us on this journey."
Quantum computers are regarded as the next significant advancement in computing, offering immense data processing power that surpasses the capabilities of current supercomputers. They have the potential to solve problems previously deemed unsolvable, with commercial applications in vital industries such as healthcare, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, energy, national defense and food production.
Jacobs is ranked by Engineering News-Record as No.1 in Data Centers, Design, Manufacturing and Industrial Processes in 2024.
