Entropica Labs and Xanadu Partner to Advance Software Capabilities Towards Fault-Tolerant Quantum Computing
TORONTO and SINGAPORE — December 3rd, 2024 -- Entropica Labs, a quantum computing software company focused on fault-tolerant quantum error correction based in Singapore, and Xanadu, a world leader in photonic quantum computing based in Canada, have announced a partnership that takes aim at a future with fault-tolerant quantum computing (FTQC). This international collaboration paves the path towards utility scale quantum computing by combining Xanadu’s extensive open-source quantum software tools, PennyLane and Catalyst, with Entropica Labs’ EKA, a novel data structure to represent, interpret, and validate quantum error correction (QEC) codes.
This collaborative project aims to address a major challenge in quantum computing efforts, where there is a dire need for efficient qubit utilization. Efficiently utilizing qubits will become increasingly important as we exit the noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) era and develop the first generation of FTQC devices, where the number of logical qubits will be limited. Both teams will work together to expand the capabilities of their respective software tools by integrating them together, allowing researchers and developers to optimize how qubits are handled. This ultimately decreases the logical qubit overhead required to run meaningful quantum algorithms on hardware, which is vital for utility scale quantum computing.
“Efficiently managing the fault-tolerant quantum error correction stack remains one of the greatest challenges towards useful quantum computers. Our goal is to simplify these processes and enable users to run error-corrected computations without worrying about their complexity,” said Tommaso Demarie, CEO of Entropica Labs. “In collaboration with Xanadu, we are developing a robust end-to-end error-corrected quantum programming workflow. By integrating Xanadu’s open-source software with Entropica’s error correction solutions, we provide the quantum developer community with innovative (software) tools to experiment with error correction and build towards fully fault-tolerant quantum algorithms. I am happy that together with Xanadu, we share the ambition to accelerate quantum computing’s journey toward transformative applications.
“The long-standing statement here at Xanadu has always been to build quantum computers that are useful and available to people everywhere. This collaboration with Entropica Labs is part of that core vision, as we know that the potential of quantum computing can only be fully unlocked by correcting for unavoidable quantum errors. By combining our specialized, industry-leading software expertise, we will make significant headway in making fault-tolerant quantum computing a reality.” said Josh Izaac, Xanadu’s Director of Product.
The partnership between Entropica Labs and Xanadu is the first step forward in enabling a seamless end-to-end user experience in the FTQC era. Users can look forward to focusing on writing quantum programs using PennyLane and Catalyst, while EKA seamlessly takes care of quantum error correction in the background. By abstracting the complexity of quantum error correction, work here makes significant progress towards the ultimate goal of having useful and accessible quantum computers everywhere.
