Colt Partners With IDQ to Explore Quantum-Safe Network Security Services
June 13, 2025 -- ID Quantique (IDQ), a global leader in Quantum-Safe Solutions, now a subsidiary of IonQ, today announced its partnership with Colt Technology Services (Colt), the global digital infrastructure company, which will explore a proactive, comprehensive range of Quantum-Safe Network Security Services for global businesses seeking protection of their critical assets.
In addition to its ability to revolutionize many industries by tackling previously unsolvable problems for classical computers, quantum computing will also break the fundamental security layer of today’s Internet – the Public Key Cryptography – which we rely on to protect all our digital economy and IT systems. To improve customer security in the quantum era, Colt plans to add IDQ’s quantum-secure network solutions to its offerings, enabling businesses to scale their data-in-transit security in an agile and cost- efficient way.
As part of the collaboration, Colt and IDQ have successfully completed a ground-breaking quantum-secured encryption trial across Colt’s optical wave network. The trial demonstrated different quantum-secure key exchange and encryption methods on data traffic, including Quantum Key Distribution (QKD); Pre-Shared Key (PSK); and Post Quantum Cryptography (PQC) technology.
The trial incorporated IDQ’s Clavis XG series Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) systems, along with Clarion KX , IDQ’s robust and field-tested quantum-safe key exchange platform. Combining post-quantum cryptography and quantum physics-based communication security, Clarion KX offers enterprises a cost-effective solution for secure quantum key exchange across extensive networks, ensuring long-term quantum resilience.
To prepare its enterprise customers for current and future quantum threats, Colt is exploring opportunities to expand its existing Optical Encryption portfolio with IDQ’s Quantum-Safe Network Security solutions, offering a wider range of quantum-secured encryption options.
Colt anticipates its financial services customers will be some of the first to benefit from its new solutions, with the financial services industry seeing some of the earliest adoption of quantum.
