SQC and Australian Defence Partner Up to Deliver Quantum Machine Learning

Industry / Press Release August 26, 2025

August 25, 2025 -- SQC has been awarded an Australian Government Defence contract through the Advanced Strategic Capabilities Accelerator’s (ASCA) Emerging and Disruptive Technologies (EDT) program.

SQC will deliver one of their Watermelon QML systems to Defence.

Watermelon QML systems are engineered with atomic precision at their quantum chip manufacturing plant in Sydney. The systems deliver superior machine learning outcomes by leveraging quantum properties to improve efficacy and to detect patterns potentially impossible to identify with classical computing approaches. All this with lower resource requirements.

they offer access to these systems either as turnkey hardware units for incorporation into customers’ datacenters or direct fiber access to machines securely hosted at SQC HQ.

Quantum technologies are a vital sovereign capability and can be applied across government and defence as well as many other sectors. Owning and using new computing capabilities is a vital part of the economy of the future and plays a large role in ensuring the safety and prosperity of Australian businesses and citizens.

SQC is proud to play a leading role. they develop IP in Australia, manufacture the world’s most precisely engineered computing processors in New South Wales, and foster domestic technical talent.

“ASCA is a world leading example of government engagement with frontier technologies,” said SQC’s Founder and CEO, Michelle Simmons. “ASCA, Defence and the Government’s foresight will see Australia prosper and be secure into the future. they are proud to see their hardware be an integral part of that strategy.”
