Oxford Ionics CEO & Co-Founder to speak at Web Summit 2024
OXFORD, November 11, 2024 -- Oxford Ionics, a world leader in trapped-ion quantum computing, today announced its co-founder and CEO, Chris Ballance, will be speaking at WebSummit this week in Lisbon, Portugal.
One of the largest technology events in the world, WebSummit brings together over 70,000 attendees to learn about the latest in technology trends and product innovation. Chris is speaking on a panel titled ‘The $1.4B Quantum Boom’ on Thursday, November 14th from 2:40pm to 3pm on Stage 11 in Pavilion 4. In a panel moderated by the SHIFT Podcast’s Jennifer Strong, Chris will speak alongside Joe Fitzsimons, CEO of Horizon Quantum, as they discuss the uptick in quantum investment and what it means as the technology continues to evolve.
With over 60 employees based in the UK and US, Oxford has pioneered a new approach to building powerful quantum computers that resolves the performance and scalability limitations to useful quantum computing. It has developed a proprietary technology called ‘Electronic Qubit Control’, which means it uses electronics - not lasers - to control its qubits.
This innovative technology has yielded record-breaking performance: Oxford Ionics holds the world records in the three most important metrics for quantum computing performance: single-qubit gate fidelity, two-qubit gate fidelity, and quantum state preparation and measurement (SPAM). Moreover, with Electronic Qubit Control, everything needed to control the qubits can be integrated onto a classical electronic chip produced in a standard semiconductor fab – unlocking unprecedented scalability.
