ORCA Computing Appoints Dr. Peter Mosley as Chief Research Officer
July 23, 2024 -- ORCA Computing has announced the appointment of Dr. Peter Mosley as Chief Research Officer (CRO). This strategic addition to the management team brings one of the world’s foremost photonics researchers into the fold, further solidifying ORCA’s leadership in the quantum computing space.
Dr. Mosley is renowned for his recent work as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Physics at the University of Bath, where he led a pioneering research group in fiber-based quantum optics. His notable contributions include developing high-quality sources of single photons across various platforms. As a prominent member of the Centre for Photonics and Photonic Materials, Dr. Mosley served as its director from 2015 to 2021. He is also an active figure in the UK Quantum Technology community, contributing as a co-investigator in the Quantum Computing and Simulation Hub.
Dr. Mosley joins ORCA during a time of exponential growth, marked by the delivery of over ten PT Series systems to global customers, a strategic acquisition of the US-based Integrated Photonics division of GXC, and key partnerships. Recent highlights include contracts to deliver quantum systems to the US Air Force-funded facility at Montana State University, a collaboration with PSNC and NVIDIA to accelerate applications, and a partnership with bp on quantum innovation in computational chemistry.
Based in London at ORCA Computing’s headquarters, Dr. Mosley will report directly to CEO Richard Murray. His appointment follows the addition of Thien-An Nguyen, who joined ORCA Computing as Chief Technology Officer in January 2024. These essential hires underscore ORCA’s commitment to enhancing its leadership and expanding its world-renowned technical and scientific expertise.
Richard Murray, Co-Founder and CEO of ORCA Computing, commented: “Dr. Mosley’s deep knowledge and pioneering work in photonics will help ORCA position itself to effectively scale quantum computing systems. His contributions will be vital as we continue our track record of success in pursuing and integrating critical research to deliver the very best technology to our customers.”
“Joining ORCA Computing marks an exciting new chapter,” said Dr. Peter Mosley. “As CRO, I look forward to leading a stellar research team and continuing to drive our innovation and market momentum. ORCA is poised to deliver true value to the market, and I am thrilled to be part of this journey.”
